Emulator IV : Operating System Versions
Overview The Emulator Operating System (EOS) has moved on leaps and bounds over the last 5 years plus. Here is a complete guide to all the versions, if possible upgrade to 4.10.
Version 4.5 "R-Chip"
This software was pre-announced in October 1999 when E-mu Systems released early details of the R-chip 32 bit FX processor card. This card and EOS 4.5 was debuted in a low key session at Winter NAMM 2000. It should ship in fall 2000, probably only with the new FX card. We will post more details on EOS 4.5 when we get them. For now you can read all about the R-Chip to get an idea of what EOS 4.5 is going to contain.
Beat Munging 2.0 will also be included, as well as a bug fix to EOS on
the scrub wheel.
Version 4.10 "Proteus PROM" This release was launched in Spring 2000, and it provides support for creating Flash ROM's for the Proteus 1000 and 2000 range. Features include:
- Proteus Flash PROM creation
- A fix for DVD RAM Drive support
- Support for the Orb Drives is complete
- Sample transfers via SMIDI are fixed so that they have 4 sample loop offsets
- Sample import problems that occur when EOS swaps sides on a stereo sample on certain SMIDI transfers are fixed
Version 4.02 "Bug Fix" This late 1999 release fixes bugs in release 4.01.
Version 4.01 "Ultracize" This release takes the Emulator 4 range up to Ultra software status with lots of new features. For non-Ultra samplers it is called "Classic". EOS 4.xx is provided with all Ultra samplers.

Version 3.0 "Workstation"
A major new release announced on December 15th, 1997. It provides:
- Upgrades the on-board sequencer to 48 tracks
- Adds an arpeggiator
- Allows for MIDI synchronised LFO`s and envelopes
- Introduces patch cord architecture
- Ships with Emagic EOS Sound Diver for
Version 2.8 "Esynth/Flash RAM"
This release was launched to support the new E-synth, and all other Emulator 4's for Flash ROM and Sound ROM SIMM's.
Version 2.5 "SysEx"
This release added extensive system exclusive control and better SCSI drivers. It includes supoport for:
- FX Option
- Roland library import
- SoundSprint
- 16 track multi-mode MIDI sequencer
- 4 new ®Z-PlaneFilters
- ReCycle support
- Iomega 1GB Jaz Drive support
- numerous preset edit and DSP enhancements
Version 2.0 "Complex Filters"
This release has 21 new fuilter types taken from the Morpheus synthesizer, as well as Roland sample inport and DOS disk support.
Version 1.5 "FX"
Adds support for the new FX board and Soundsprint feature. Used on E4K.
Version 1.2 "SMDI" This release adds sample dumping, E3 sample export and new solo and latch modes. SCSI disk larger than 4GB supported.
Version 1.1 "Filters" Several new filter types were added in this release - including band pass, high pass and vocal formant. Launched with early e64`s
Version 1.0 "Basic"
This was the original EOS release with only three Filter types - 2, 4 and 6 pole Low Pass. It was launched with original EIV in 1994.
