Emulator III : Alchemy 3.0 Sample Editor
Overview Alchemy is a powerful Macintosh 16-bit stereo sample editor which enables the user to
retrieve, record, play back, edit, and store sampled sounds. Alchemy 3.0's Distributed Audio Network (DAN) enables you to archive the sounds for several different sampling devices and digital audio boards in
a single, convenient sound library.
Availability Alchemy is no longer manufactured, as a result of the take over of Passport in the late 1990's. There is no support
from the new company, so no new authorisations are possible. Alchemy versions can still be found new or second hand on eBay. Expect to pay $50+. Go for Version 3.0, rather than 2.5 or earlier.
Features include; (UST) Unified Sampling Technology, Fast
Fourier Transform analysis and resynthesis, true stereo editing, automated fades and crossfades, digital EQ, time compression, pitch shifting, stereo multi-tap digital delays, Digidesign's and
Sound Manager 3.0 support, and high-resolution sample rate conversion.
- Flexible waveform display with multiple levels of zoom.
- Loop Splice Mode provides sample-accurate high-resolution display and editing of the critical loop splice point. Automatic
zero-crossing detection simplifies looping decisions.
- Open an unlimited number of waveform windows.
- Eight user-definable views for each sound file with independent zoom levels and display areas.
The Distributed Audio Network shares sampled sounds among different samplers, remembering keyboard mapping, communication
method, MIDI channels, SCSI ID, clock rates, etc.
- Alchemy maintains a single, central 16-bit stereo sound library containing sampled sounds which can be previewed
from disk and sent directly to any sampler in your studio.
- Alchemy is compatible with Sound Designer, Dyaxis, Apple SND Resources type 1 and type 2, WAV and Audio IFF soundfile formats.
Alchemy supports OMS for instrument and port assignments
