AM3340 Module - Prophet 5 Revision 3 VCO

Overview The CEM3340 was introduced in 1980 and it quickly established itself as the VCO in the Prophet 5 Rev 3, Oberheim OB8, Roland Jupiter 6, Memory Moog and Pro One. This VCO was revolutionary, as it contained internal temperature compensation and therefore provided a more stable and consistent VCO for polysynths. It dominated the analog synth market until the arrival of Digitally Controlled Oscillators (DCO's) in the mid 1980's.

AM Circuit The AM3340 module is based around the Digisound modular design, but all the CEM3340 designs are very similar. Four VCO waveforms are provide; Square, Trainagle, Saw and Sine. Hard and soft syncoptions are provided, and the VCO can be controlled via both exponential and linear FM.

The AM design has an extra feature. The waveforms can be selected and mixed together, just like on a Prophet 5. The same buttons have been used with in built LED's. This makes waveform mixing easy, and adds visual interest. The momentary buttons use the AM PBSB sub-module.

Panel The front panel is a standard 135mm wide AM design with 3mm aluminium, 4U high, with black lettering. There is a cut out for the 4 push buttons. Controls knobs are standard Eµ Modular designs.

Build History The schematic has been transferred into Eagle CAD, and the board layout needs to be completed.
