Modifiers - Dynamic Change in Time and Space

Overview  Whilst the oscillator and filter provide the analog synthesizer with the frequency content of a sound, it is passive until we animate the sound with control voltages generated from Modifiers. This started in the mid 1960's with the innovative Moog 911 Envelope Generator, and then began to broaden out to a wide range of control voltage shapes and sizes.

AM Modifiers These can take main shapes and forms, ranging from the 4 stage ADSR to random Noise Sources, here is the list:

  • AM2350 The Transient Generator from the E-mu Systems Modular synthesizer with SSM2050 chips. It has a delay function as well as the usual Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release.
  • AM2400 The E-mu Systems Noise Source with some ARP 2500 ideas.
  • AM4016 Dual Noise module from the ARP 2500
  • AM8014 Ring Modulator and Noise Source from the ARP 2600
  • AM8015 The Voltage Controlled Clock, Sample & Hold, Lag Processor and Electronic Switch from the ARP 2600
  • AM8140 This is the fast and slick ADSR from the Roland 100M
  • AM8017 A generic ADSR design based on the 4066 analog switch chip.
  • AM8020 The ADSR and AR from the ARP 2600.
