5.25" Floppy Diskettes The Emulator I, Emulator II and
SP-12 with Commodore 1541 make use of DS/DD soft sectored 5.25" floppy diskettes. These types of diskettes are increasingly difficult to find new, and even Imation have now ceased manufacture. We recommend stock piling whilst
new diskettes are still available in stores.
The Emulator I uses 48tpi DS/DD diskettes, the Imation part number is 00234. It only uses one side of the diskette.
E-mu Systems recommended 96tpi diskettes for the EII, although
48tpi diskettes will work okay. The 96tpi DS/DD diskettes are Imation part number 00240, the 48tpi DS/DD part number is 00234.
The SP-12 with a 1541 drive uses 48tpi DS/DD 5.25" diskettes. The Imation part number is 00234.
Don't use hard sectored, IBM formatted diskettes. They will NOT work.
3.5" DS/DD Floppy Diskettes
The Emax, Emax II, SP1200 and Emulator III and EIIIx use 3.5" DS/DD diskettes. Whilst DS/HD diskettes can be used by covering the HD hole with tape, this is not recommended
as the magnetic properties of the diskettes are slightly different. This can affect the life span of the stored data - valuable samples ! Unformatted 3.5" DS/DD diskettes can still be located
(Imation part number12042), but often you have to order them.
