AM2530 Module - Eµ Analog Switch (AS)
Overview This module is a clone of the Analog Switch in the Eµ Modular Sequncer. It has four analog signal inputs which can be switched on or off by the front panel toggle switches
or by digital control signals. The circuit has been expanded with signal level controls, so it can act as a mixer, and the audio path has upgraded with modern higher quality components.
Original Circuit
Dave Rossum originally designed the Analog Switch back in 1974, and it was released as part of the original Modular Seqeuncer in the same year. The core of the circuit is a couple of CMOS 4016 switches that switch the 4 channels on and off and into a simple 556 Op Amp mixer. The channels can be manually switched or pulsed on or off from external control voltrages. There is also an unswitched audio input to enable analog switches to be cascaded. There is no onboard clock, because this is a modular seqeuncer, and a VC Clock module can be used.
AM Circuit The AM module uses the same basic CMOS switch design, but it has been upgraded and expanded:
- The analog inputs go through front panel pots to enable the switch to be used as a mixer.
- The analog output has a LED driver to show overall signal volume.
- The 4016 CMOS analog switches have been replaced with higher quality Maxim DG202's.
- The 556 Op Amp has been upgraded to an OPA2134
Front Panel
The front panel design has been radically moved about, and is slimmer than the original. The addition of pots means that the PCB can be easily mounted to them on brackets. The panel is a standard AM design, 90mm wide and 4U high, with black lettering. Controls knobs are the standard Eµ Modular design. The LED's are 5mm blue and aqua mounted in clear cliplites.
Build History
The schematic was transferred into Eagle CAD in March 2005 and a prototype PCB will be ordered soon.
