AM2210 Module - Eµ Wave Converter
Overview This module is a clone of the Wave Converter in the Eµ Modular synthesizer. It creates triangle, sine, pulse and inverted sawtooth waveforms from a sawtooth input, usually
from a VCO.
The circuit was originally designed back in 1973 by Dave Rossum and this is an exact replica.
Original Circuit
The wave converter is a traditional design with a 556 Op Amp inverting the incoming sawtooth, then two diodes create a triangle waveform which is amplified and buffered by a 556 Op Amp. A CA3080 OTA is driven into distortion to produce a sine waveform, whilst another 556 Op Amp converts the output current into a voltage.
A 741 Op Amp buffers and inverts the pulse width control voltage, and then appropriately offsets the sawtooth, which is compared against ground by a 748 Op Amp. A 2N4121 transistor is driven by the pulse waveform, which is then
buffered by a 748 Op Amp to give a fast risetime pulse waveform.
Finally all the waveforms are mixed into a 556 Op Amp.
AM2210 Circuit
The AM circuit is an exact replica, using OPA134 Op Amps to replace the obsolete 556's, but retaining the 741/748's to ensure the pulse wavforms are accurate.
Front Panel
The 2210 is built into the 2200 VCO front panel.
Build History The schematic was transferred into Eagle CAD in Oct 2004, next stage is to lay the PCB out.
