                                 Emulate some magic!

Introduction
Analog synthesizers and digital sequencers have been at the core of innovative electronic music for 40 years. In the 1970's a number of companies sprang up in the USA and designed a series of amazing products - ARP, E-mu Systems, Oberheim and Sequential Circuits. Most of these designs have been lost in the digital software music revolution, yet the original hardware is sought after by musicians for the warmth, precision and character. However buying and using old equipment is increasingly frustrating - so wouldn't it be nice to have these designs re-invented and manufactured today with current components?

Analog Metropolis
Since 2002 I have been developing and manufacturing analog synthesizer modules for the new age - the 21st century. A variety of legacy circuits from the past recast with modern high quality components, as well as modern cutting edge designs which transform the modular synthesizer into a hybrid landscape of analog and digital electronics.

This is the Analog Metropolis, literally a city of analog. From traditional VCO's, VCF's, VCA's and Envelope Generators to new Voltage Processors and sleek digital control surfaces and displays. These designs are available in 2 formats:

  • PCB's for Synth DIYers to build into modular synthesizers
  • Completed FracRac modules - plug and play!

Completed FracRac modules are coming on stream during 2008, more details will be announced on the web site as products become available. Project Notes for building modules from the PCb's are available for download.

Custom Synthesizer Design
I also undertake custom analog sythesizer design assignments. So if you need replacement E-mu Systems or ARP sub modules, a new digital SCI 700 Programmer or a PCB for a SSM2030 VCO, then please email me with your requirements.

Athestic Design
Developing remarkable electronics is only half the job. To create music from hardware the musician has to be inspired by the control surface and ergonomics as well as the sound. I have taken care to design the front panels of the modules I use in my studio with these factors in mind, using design cues from the past - control knobs, switches, LED's and displays. Take a look at the pictures on the web site to see what can be achieved. Synth candy!
